After the massive success of Vikram, the Kollywood Box office had fallen into a bit of a lull. However, this week saw the release of Karthi starrer Viruman. Though the movie received mixed reviews from critics, it was a big hit among movie buffs. On its release day, Viruman earned over 8 crores. It went on to earn more than the same amount on its second and third days. At present, the film has grossed over thirty crores worldwide.
Vikram
If the last month’s box office performances are any indication, then the film Vikram has certainly surpassed expectations. The high-octane action drama directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has brought in more than Rs 150 crores to the Kollywood box office. The cast also includes Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Suriya, and Narain. A sequel is expected soon.
Endrendrum Punnagai
The first half of Endrendrum Punnagai is full of fun Kollywood Boxoffice and jokes. It’s also very gentle and the chemistry between the two leads is good. Despite the cliches and over-the-top acting, there is a certain humour to this film. Unfortunately, the second half is a slog, with unnecessary drama and songs. In the end, the movie falls flat on the box office, and while it has some fun moments, there is much to be questioned about it.
Lingaa
The opening day of Lingaa was the biggest for a Tamil movie, earning Rs30 crore in India and a total of Rs65 crore worldwide. It is one of the highest grossers in the history of Kollywood. It grossed over Rs100 crore globally, exceeding its budget of Rs130 crore. Though it had high expectations, the film failed to meet the expectations and faced the biggest loss in Kollywood history.
Kabali
With its stellar star power, the movie “Kabali” is racking up colossal numbers at the Kollywood box office. It has broken numerous box office records in India and overseas. Even though it has a budget of over 100 crores, Kabali has made more than 211 crores in the Indian box office. Kabali is a 2016 Hindi action film directed by Pa. Rai and has received rave reviews.
Kaithi
The release of ‘Kaithi’ in the Indian cinema has created a buzz in the industry. It is a rural-based vigilante story with an interesting storyline. It is bankrolled by SR Prakash Babu and produced by Dream Warrior Pictures. The film also features Karthi as a prisoner on parole. The first day of the release of ‘Kaithi’ has been quite successful, earning more than Rs 50 crore in the country.
Vijay’s Master
Vijay’s latest movie, ‘Master’, has been making waves at the Kollywood box office. Although the movie was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic, the film has been doing a solid business in its first week. It has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in Tamil Nadu, and its occupancy rate worldwide is about 50%. The movie is likely to cross the Rs 200 crore mark in its second week.
